Hong Kong Stock Market Summary

    The HSI opened up 432 pts and the gain expanded afterwards, eventually closing at 26,236, up 961 pts. The main board turnover hit record high at HK$250bn. The daily stock-connect quota for mainland investors was used up for the first time.

    HKEX (388) rose 12.2% to HK$220, and became the top gainer of the HSI. The Shanghai Stock Exchange allows investors to open separate accounts in different securities firms. GUOTAI JUNAN (1788) soared 23.4% to HK$8.96, CITIC SEC (6030) and HAITONG SEC (6837) jumped 14.2% and 19%. Mainland financial shares advanced. PICC P&C (2328) rose 7.2% to HK$16.68. BOC (3988) and CCB (939) rose around 5%. Dot-com shares performed well. TENCENT (700) climbed 3.1% to HK$154.5. NETDRAGON (777) surged 35.2%. Railway shares advanced. The merger of CSR (1766) and CNR (6199) obtained unconditional approval. Their share prices soared 44.5% and 41.8%. CHINA COMM CONS (1800) rose 14.9%.
